WORK to lay a new pitch at Loftus Road will get underway almost immediately after the R’s last home fixture of the season.
Much has been made of the playing surface in W12 this season and with Harry Redknapp keen to shape a team that – in his own words – ‘play football how it should be played,’ Chairman Tony Fernandes was quick to approve the manager’s request for a new surface.
The current Loftus Road pitch was laid some 17 years ago and was one of the first ever DESSO GrassMaster® laid pitches in the country.
In fact, the pitch is one of the oldest in Europe, serving the club well since 1996.
It is to be replaced by its far more modern counterpart. Although the new pitch is of the same principle of plastic strands interwoven into the playing surface, the overall design has moved a long way from its original inception and will allow the Club to move forward on what will be a carpet of grass that will bode well for the long-term.
“A new pitch is essential for what we’ll be trying to achieve next season,” Redknapp told www.qpr.co.uk
“It will make a big difference in terms of the way we want to play.
“I want to produce a team that can play football the way it should be played and a new surface will be conducive to that.
“I’m confident we can play our way out of the division and a new pitch will help.”
Recommended by FIFA, DESSO GrassMaster® is a hybrid grass system that has more than proven itself at Premier League level, as well as being utilised by NFL Clubs, multifunctional stadiums and renowned events such as the Football World Cup, Rugby World Cup and UEFA European Championships.
The natural grass mat reinforced by injecting artificial turf fibres ensures that the roots of the natural grass intertwine with the synthetic fibres.
Rangers are not alone in recognising the benefits of the DESSO GrassMaster® with clubs including Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Arsenal all opting for the same solution.
