Granero speaks after Saturday’s defeat

RECENT signing admits Esteban Granero admits his debut was bittersweet following a 3-1 defeat at Barclays Premier League champions Manchester City.

The former Real Madrid ace played for 85 minutes in Saturday’s contest at the Etihad Stadium, where goals from Yaya Toure, Edin Dzeko and Carols Tevez won it for the home side.

Bobby Zamora had put the R’s on terms in the 59th minute.

Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, Granero told us: “It was good to make my debut, but at the same time I’m not too happy because of the result.

“It was a great effort. We had our chances, mostly in the second half.

“They scored their second goal just after we equalised, so it was hard for us.

“But I’m happy to have played my first game. We have a very good team and it’s going to be a good year for us.”

He added: “It’s always difficult when you come to a big stadium against a great team with great players.

“Perhaps we needed more confidence in the first half, but at the end of the first half and the second we got it and started to play well.

“We can take this confidence into the Chelsea game now. We’re also playing at Loftus Road, so this will give us some more strength. We will have our supporters with us.

“We will try hard. They’re also a good team, but we have confidence in our team and we now have two weeks to prepare for it.”
