QPR UNDER-18s semi-final hero Peter Skapetis says the prize of wearing the famous blue n' white hoops under the Loftus Road floodlights made his dramatic late winner against Leeds United ‘extra special’.
The R’s frontman sparked scenes of jubilation with a 91st minute strike to fire Rangers into the Professional Development League 2 play-off final.
Steve Gallen’s side now face fellow semi-finalist victors Huddersfield Town as the R's season boils down to one last winner-takes-all showdown.
“It’s a credit to our hard work,” the in-form striker told www.qpr.co.uk
. “We’ve been working hard all season so it’s great to reach the final.
“It was a tight game; Leeds have got some quality players and they gave us a really good game.
“It was tough but great to get over the line in the end.”
In a game starved of clear-cut chances Skapetis’ instincts in front of goal proved decisive, swivelling neatly before burying a shot low into the corner.
“You have to stay focused,” he added. “They [chances] could come at any time so you have to make sure you’re ready for when one comes your way.
“Fortunately one did at just the right time and I was able to take it.”
The R's talisman - who skippered the side on Saturday - admitted the lure of home advantage in the final was an added bonus.
Skapetis - who bagged a brace in his last outing in front of the Loft during the Under-21s recent 2-1 win over Swansea City – admits he is relishing the opportunity to do it all over again.
He added: “Everyone will be buzzing to play there.
“It’s always an honour to pull on the QPR shirt and to do it at Loftus Road will make it extra special.”
