STEVE Gallen admits victory in the Professional Development League 2 play-off final will be the ‘icing on the cake’ in QPR Under-18s’ season.
Rangers host Huddersfield Town at Loftus Road on Wednesday night as the young R's find themselves 90 minutes away from glory.
Gallen hailed his side's achievements after a hard-fought 1-0 win at Leeds United secured home advantage in the end-of-season decider.
“We are delighted,” Gallen told www.qpr.co.uk during Tuesday's training session. “The lads are excited and so is all the staff.
“It’s a brilliant achievement to get here and hopefully we can go to the next step and finish it off.
“If we can put the icing on the cake and win the final it will mean everything.”
Huddersfield - who finished runners-up to Leeds in the Northern section - arrive in W12 after overcoming Charlton Athletic in the last four.
“We’ve had a good look at Huddersfield," Gallen said. "Their attitude has been fantastic from what I’ve seen of them.
“They’re a very strong team, powerful and hard-working; they must be to get this far and to come of out of a very tough league.
“It’s going to be a very tough game.”
The Terriers required a penalty shootout to prevail past Charlton as both semi-finals were inevitably decided by the finest of margins.
Gallen isn’t ruling out a similar scenario on Wednesday night as the R's season reaches its climax with one last winner-takes-all showdown.
He said: “I don’t expect it to be high scoring, I expect it to be tight and a bit nervy for both teams.
“Hopefully it will be an enjoyable one and we can show everybody what we’re about."
Admission to Loftus Road on Wednesday (kick-off 7pm) is FREE for all spectators – entry via South Africa Road only.
