QPR striker Charlie Austin was sitting in front of his laptop at 9am this morning frantically refreshing the official website to learn the R’s Premier League opponents.
Ironically he discovered that Rangers have been paired against Hull City on the opening day of the season at Loftus Road, the side Austin nearly joined last summer until the deal fell through and paved the way for his move to W12.
The newly promoted R’s then head to Tottenham Hotspur before hosting Sunderland at Loftus Road to bring August to a close.
“It’s funny that fixture (Hull City) has come up first and I’m looking forward to playing them with QPR,” forward Charlie Austin told www.qpr.co.uk
“The start is probably kinder than it could have been but lets be honest this is the Premier League - the best league in the world, - so you aren’t going to get any easy games regardless of who they are against.”
Austin – a boyhood Liverpool fan - admitted that today’s release of the 2014/15 Premier League fixtures has finally made the R’s Play-Off Final achievement sink in.
“It’s hit home now I’m in the Premier League,” continued Austin who scored 20 goals last season. “I’ve been looking at where we are starting at and finishing at and everywhere in between.
“I’m looking forward to the Liverpool games but every game is going to be special now I’m in the Premier League and I’m determined to make the most of it.”
Manager Harry Redknapp and his first team squad return to pre-season training next month as they begin the hard work of preparing for the new season. Hard work that will be made all the easier by being in the top flight according to Charlie.
“It’s a few weeks now until the hard work of pre-season starts but you know what is at the end of it – Premier League football – that is something to look forward to,” he finished.
