ALEJANDRO Faurlin underwent a successful operation on his left knee on Friday after he ruptured his Anterior Cruciate Ligament in our fixture against Derby County earlier this month.
The Argentinian midfielder will now be focusing his energy towards his rehabilitation, and QPR’s Head of Medical Services Dr Peter Florida says Faurlin has been lifted by the messages he has received from the R’s fans.
“Ale’s operation went very well, and he’s now recovering in Barcelona where the surgery took place” Florida told www.qpr.co.uk
“He really appreciates all the messages he has received from the fans and his team-mates. It has really helped to lift him. He was obviously very upset immediately afterwards but his spirits are much better now.
“His knee is obviously still a bit sore but he is doing well.”
Florida revealed Faurlin will remain in Spain for the initial part of his rehabilitation, explaining: “He will be staying out there for a few weeks.
“The operation was carried out by surgeon Ramon Tugat, who Ale saw the last time when he had his right ACL repaired.
“Ale was keen to go back there again. Ramon speaks Spanish which is also hugely useful in terms of communicating the finer details of the surgery and rehab.
“We were very happy with Ramon last time, and so were very comfortable with Ale going back there again.”
The initial prognosis was that Faurlin would be sidelined for six to nine months, and Florida says that remains the case.
“That’s still where we are at,” he said. “It’s very early days and we have to see how he responds to the therapy.
“In terms of the initial stages of his rehab, we are firstly waiting for the swelling around the knee to go down following the operation.
“He will be doing a little work on his quad muscles and will be working on the range in his knee, in terms of how far he can extend it and flex it. That will be his focus for the next two weeks.
“Ale is a strong character. He carried out his rehab really well last time, he worked so hard and I am sure he will be exactly the same this time. I have got no doubts about that.”
