Stephane Mbia and Benoit Assou-Ekotto exit World Cup with 4-0 defeat for Cameroon against Croatia ...

STEPHANE Mbia and Benoit Assou-Ekotto’s World Cup is over following Cameroon’s 4-0 defeat against Croatia last night.

The loss means The Indomitable Lions failed to progress beyond the World Cup group stage for the fifth successive finals.

The African side fell behind in the 11th minute as Ivica Olic fired home, and were reduced to 10 men after Alex Song lashed out at Mario Mandzukic.

Ivan Perisic made it 2-0 when he punished goalkeeper Charles Itanje's poor clearance, before Mandzukic headed home Croatia's third.

Mandzukic added his second, tapping in after Eduardo's shot was parried.

Cameroon’s defeat was marred though when Assou-Ekotto clashed with teammate Benjamin Moukandjo in stoppage time.

Cameroon’s final World Cup match will be on Monday when they face hosts Brazil (9pm BST) in Brasilia.

QPR’s next player in action is France striker Loic Remy on Friday when they play Switzerland in Salvador, kick-off 8pm BST.
