We take a closer look at new opposition for 2017/18, Middlesbrough ...

Team: Middlesborough

Manager: Garry Monk

Nickname: The Boro

Stadium: Riverside

Capacity: 33,746

Miles from Loftus Road (round-trip): 504

Position: 19th (Premier League)

2016/17: Middleborough’s struggles in front of goal is what ultimately cost them their place in the Premier League this term. Boro were reasonably strong defensively but scored the least amount of goals in the division and that proved their downfall as they were relegated with manager Aitor Karanka leaving the club in March, and interim Steve Agnew failing to turn their fortune around. Ex-Leeds United gaffer Garry Monk was appointed their new manager in the summer and will hope to guide them back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

One to watch: Rudy Gestede – The target man may have struggled to adapt to the Premier League but at this level remains one of the most difficult opponents in the division due to his power and aerial ability. If Middlesbrough can provide him with the right kind of service, then you can expect him to be a hit for Monk’s side.
