ROMEO Akinola helped QPR Under-18s to success in the FA Youth Cup last time out and is looking forward to testing himself against Tottenham Hotspur at Loftus Road tonight (Tuesday).
Paul Furlong’s youngsters face Spurs (kick-off 7pm) after overcoming Swindon Town 3-1 at the County Ground last month.
Akinola set the seal on victory that night with a sublime free-kick, and the midfielder is hoping for a repeat performance in the Fourth Round this evening.
“It was challenging playing at their stadium but, just because it’s the FA Youth Cup, it was important we didn’t forget about the basics – we have to keep the ball, we can’t be dwelling on it and we have to make sure not to play the occasion. We have to play our game.
“We were organised that night which made the difference in the end. We moved the ball quickly and we know we’ll have to do that again against Tottenham.”
Tonight provides a golden chance for the Rangers youngsters to enjoy a taste of life at Loftus Road, playing under the lights in front of the R’s faithful.
It’s one Akinola and his team-mates are relishing.
“It’s much more special because you’re playing in front of fans,” he added. “It's different in that sense to our normal league games at Heston or Harlington.”
“We’re looking forward to it a lot. It’s a chance for us to show what we can do and prove ourselves.”
Tickets are only available for tonight from the QPR Box Office, priced £3 adults / £1 concessions / U8 free (with paying adult).
