Head of Fitness, Carl Serrant, explains the importance of recovery sessions in pre-season ...

‘THEY’RE where we’d expect them to be’ – that was the view of Head of Fitness, Carl Serrant, when asked about the player’s fitness levels following last night’s maiden pre-season friendly.

Charlie Austin scored the only goal of the game against Rot-Weiß Erfurt, on a night when 22 different players each played a part at the Steigerwalstadion.

Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk from the #RsInGermany recovery session at a local swimming pool this morning, Serrant said: “We’re pleased with the lads.

“They’re working hard and their fitness levels are where we’d expect them to be at this stage of the pre-season campaign.”

He added: “The recovery sessions after pre-season games are hugely important, and even more so after the first fixture.

“Even though the guys only played 45 minutes each last night, most of them will feel some fatigue and a bit of stiffness, so this session is all about getting the body back in balance and getting the players moving around so we can train at a good intensity for the rest of the week.

“The pool gives the players a bit of passive resistance, offloading the joints.

“If we’d have gone straight onto the training pitches for a light session this morning, those guys with joint discomfort might have aggravated it just running around, so being in the water is perfect.”
