Samba scores winner as Congo top group ...

CHRISTOPHER Samba scored the winner for Congo-Brazzaville in their 1-0 2014 World Cup qualifier win against Gabon on Saturday.

The victory puts Congo in pole position in Group E on nine points after three wins in their opening three matches.

Stephen Mbia’s Cameroon secured a 2-1 triumph against Togo in Group I of the Confederation of African Football qualification section.

Samuel Eto’o scored both goals for Cameroon with midfielder Mbia picking up cap number 42 for the African nation as a second half substitute.

Senegal’s 1-1 draw with Angola was enough to keep them top of Group J but Rangers fullback Armand Traore was an unused substitute.

Forward Loic Remy came off the bench for France as they cruised to a 3-1 win against Georgia in Paris.

Remy entered the action after 66 minutes as the French took control of Group I in the UEFA section.

Spain’s 1-1 draw with Finland handed France a two point lead at the top of the table with the two sides set to meet at the Stade de France tomorrow night.

Tal Ben Haim’s Israel suffered injury time heartbreak as they nearly pulled off a shock win against Portugal.

Israel were leading the Portuguese 3-2 until Fabio Coentrao struck three minutes into time added on to rescue a draw.

Currently in second place in Group F, Israel travel to Northern Ireland on Tuesday night (7:45pm).
