Dowd will take charge under the lights in W12 ...

STAFFORDSHIRE-BORN referee Phil Dowd will take charge of Tuesday evening’s top-flight match against Manchester City at Loftus Road.

Tuesday’s clash against the champions will be Dowd’s third outing in front of the R’s this term.

Previously, Dowd was the man in the middle when the R’s travelled to White Hart Lane and the DW Stadium earlier this season.

Last campaign, Dowd took charge of three QPR games; one win, one draw and one loss.

Dowd was the main official when last season’s new-look side drew with Newcastle United under the lights at Loftus Road in September 2012.

He also took charge of Mark Hughes’s first win in W12, when the R’s beat League One outfit MK Dons in the FA Cup Third Round.

His last outing, during the 2011/12 campaign, was against West London neighbours Fulham at Loftus Road in February, where Samba Diakite was sent off on his Rangers debut.

Dowd began his refereeing career officiating in the local leagues in 1984, before eventually progressing to both the Staffordshire Senior League and the Midland Football Alliance.

The 51-year old was appointed to The Football League list of assistant referees in 1992, before joining the League's full list of officials in 1997.

Dowd was finally promoted to England's top-tier in 2001, with this campaign being his twelfth year in the Premier League.

The experienced official refereed the Manchester derby at Wembley Stadium in the 2011 FA Community Shield.

Dowd also recently refereed the 2012 FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Liverpool at Wembley Stadium.

Dowd’s last Premier League appearance was during Everton and Swansea City’s goalless draw earlier this month.

S Long and G Beswick will be Dowd's two assistants.

J Moss will be the fourth official.
