QPR UNDER-18s consolidated their place at the top of the league after coming from a goal behind to beat Barnet on Saturday.
The Bees stung the R’s with an early opener but Peter Skapetis’ equaliser inspired a comprehensive second-half comeback.
Skapetis’ double either side of strikes from midfield duo Mike Petrasso and Connor Hubble ensured maximum points for the hosts as Steve Gallen’s side eased to their eighth successive league victory.
Rangers made the early running and almost broke the deadlock in bizarre fashion. Hubble’s 30-yard free-kick looked to be drifting harmlessly over but looped onto the crossbar, rebounding to safety.
But it was the visitors who took a surprise lead as Barnet split the R’s offside trap on four minutes. Bees striker George Sykes raced away before calmly slotting past Joe Lumley in the Rangers goal.
The R’s recovered well from the early setback, though, with a succession of near misses. Dylan Carreiro – recently called-up to the Canada U20 side along with team-mate Petrasso – burst forward from midfield but fired his shot from the edge of the area over the bar.
Another R’s counter-attack on the half hour mark saw David Fitzpatrick and Carreiro combine to set up a shooting opportunity for Skapetis, whose low effort ricocheted off the near post. Skapetis came close again two minutes later but his close-range drive was palmed away by the Bees goalkeeper.
Skapetis wasn’t to be denied as the R’s pressure eventually told eight minutes before the interval. Skapetis collected a loose ball before his deflected shot from 18 yards flew into the bottom corner to level the scores.
Gallen’s side started the second-half on the front foot, threatening once again two minutes after the re-start. Petrasso’s low cross from the right found compatriot Carreiro, whose volley flashed narrowly over.
Rangers edged in front on 56 minutes as Skapetis’ presence provided a second goal. The striker’s shot was only parried by the Barnet goalkeeper as Carreiro reacted quickest to stab home the rebound.
The pair combined again on the hour mark as Carreiro’s through ball gave Skapetis another goalscoring opportunity. The striker was off target on this occasion, firing into the side netting.
Respite was brief for the visitors, though, as the R’s stretched their lead on 65 minutes. A routine ball was fumbled by the Barnet ‘keeper, allowing Hubble to intercept before stroking into an unguarded net.
The R’s were close to notching a fourth shortly after as Petrasso’s lay-off fell kindly for Josh Hunt-Laurent. The midfielder almost capped a dominant display with a goal but his effort curled wide of the near post.
It wasn’t long until Rangers found the net for a fourth time as Skapetis completed the scoring. Fitzpatrick’s cross-shot wasn't dealt with by the Bees defence, allowing Skapetis to round-off another satisfactory outing for the young R's with an easy finish at the back post.
