- Charlie Austin named Supporters', Players' and Junior Hoops' Player of the Season
- Striker has won all three awards for second consecutive season
- Darnell Furlong named Daphne Biggs Young Player of the Year
FOR THE second season running, Charlie Austin has dominated QPR’s end-of-season awards.
The R’s striker – who has scored an incredible 17 Premier League goals so far this term in his maiden season in the top flight – was voted Supporters’ Player of the Year.
He was also named Ray Jones Players' Player of the Year, with his team-mates acknowledging his fantastic contribution to what has ultimately been a disappointing campaign for the club.
The 25 year-old, who joined Rangers from Burnley two years ago, also collected the Junior Hoops’ Player of the Year accolade.
Incredibly, Austin won all three categories 12 months ago as well, as his 20 goals helped fire Rangers back to the top flight.
Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk
, Austin said: “It’s really pleasing to win these awards again. It’s hard to find the right words to describe how I feel because of the situation we are in.
“To be acknowledged by the players as well as the fans means so much to me. Whenever I go across the white line, I always give 100 per cent and try my best.
“It’s very bitter-sweet for me. Personally, it has been a good season but, as a club, it has been a really disappointing one. If I could swap some of my goals for our survival I’d do it in a heartbeat.”
Austin admits his first Premier League – and QPR – hat-trick against West Bromwich Albion at Loftus Road in December ranks as the highlight of his first season in the top-flight.
“That was really special,” he admitted. “To come from 2-0 down, score a hat-trick and get all three points was great. It was a brilliant day.”
Darnell Furlong has been named the Daphne Biggs Young Player of the Year, as voted for by the R's fans, following a season which saw him break into the QPR first team.
Having not played a professional fixture prior to this season, the 19 year-old has made three appearances for the R’s this term.
Meanwhile, Matt Phillips won the Kiyan Prince Goal of the Season award for his outrageous 43-yard thunderbolt against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in March.
Chris Kemp has been voted Supporter of the Year by his fellow fans for the backing he has shown the club through the years. Chris has attended more than 1,250 consecutive QPR matches home and away.
Charlie, Matt, Darnell and Chris will be presented with their awards prior to our final home fixture of the season against Newcastle United on Saturday.
