R’s front-man scoops prestigious Barclays monthly award for December

QPR striker Charlie Austin has scooped the Barclays Premier League Player of the Month award for December.

Austin, 25, clinched the monthly gong ahead of Chelsea duo Eden Hazard and John Terry; Spurs striker Harry Kane; Santi Cazorla (Arsenal); and Manchester City playmaker David Silva.

In doing so, he becomes only the second Rangers player to win the award, following in the footsteps of former R’s winger Trevor Sinclair, who collected the gong in October 1995.

Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, Austin expressed his delight at winning the prestigious award, commenting: “To win awards like this is very pleasing.

“I just try to work as hard as I can and score as many goals as I can for QPR.

“But it’s not all about me – it’s a team game – and my team-mates deserve as much credit as I do for this award.

“All I am focused on is helping QPR gain as many points as possible and if I’m scoring goals, that’s great.

“I’ve scored 13 so far in the Premier League and I’m really pleased with where I am. Hopefully it can continue and we can start climbing the table as quickly as possible.”

Austin scored five goals in the month – including a match-winning hat-trick against West Bromwich Albion – as well as providing one assist.

He featured for 435 minutes in the five fixtures he featured in, making 71 successful passes.

He added: “The highlight (from the month) was scoring my first Premier League hat-trick. It was a great moment for me but more important was the three points against West Bromwich Albion.”
