QPR'S HEALTH ADVOCATES

QPR's health advocates have launched in South Kilburn. Working together with SKNDC (South Kilburn New Deal for Communities) and other partner projects, the health advocates will aim to reduce health inequalities amongst South Kilburn residents.
QPR's Health Advocates comprise of local people that attend a 13-week training course in order to become fully-fledged health advocates. The health advocates are also bilingual, which means that they speak many different languages, which is highly beneficial to this project.

South Kilburn has been identified as a largely multicultural area and an area that suffers from poor health. People just aren't taking appropriate measures to keep their health in good shape. The reasons that have been identified for this are language barriers, lack of information, lack of knowledge & understanding.
The role of the advocates is to provide information, support, and language interpreting services. This will prove to be a very beneficial especially for the communities that suffer due to language barriers.
Health Advocates can be booked to accompany residents on all types of health appointments such as, doctors, dentists, hospitals, clinics and much more.

Health Advocates can also be there to accompany those who suffer from a lack of confidence and self awareness. A health advocate can be a voice for the community in order to improve health.
The health advocacy project will also deliver workshops around health to further educate and alert the community on various health issues.

The health advocates are also here to promote health amongst younger people by using football. We have trained two QPR Community coaches in order to deliver our football and health initiative.
