Rangers gaffer John Gregory paid tribute to R's assistant kit-man Bobby Ross, as the 65 year-old received the Manager's Merit Award on this first day back at training today (Wednesday).

Ross, who was notified of his accolade at the Club's Annual Player of the Year Awards Dinner & Dance at the end of last season, was awarded the engraved shield by Gregory prior to training this morning.

Speaking exclusively to www.qpr.co.uk, Gregory said: "It's the very least he deserves.

"The Club would come to a standstill without people like Bobby, who work tirelessly in the background and often don't get the credit they deserve.

"If we had to pay Bobby by the hour, he'd be on a million pounds a year! But in all seriousness, he's a great credit to himself and the Football Club and he's dearly loved by everybody here, particularly the players.''

Ross initially joined Rangers in 1978 as Schoolboy Development Officer.

He has since flourished in a number of roles at the Club, including Youth Co-ordinator, Schoolboy Coach, Youth Team Coach and Schoolboy Scout.

Speaking after receiving his award, Ross said: "Over the many years and many roles I've worked in, it has been an absolute rollercoaster ride.

"As a former professional, I am aware of the demands of being involved at this level, but I didn't expect it to be so fulfilling and rewarding.

"It's been a challenge, but I've always given 100 per-cent in everything I've done for this Football Club.''

Ross continued: "It's a fabulous gesture from the Club. I had a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye when the gaffer read my name out at the Player of the year Awards Dinner & Dance.

"I'd like to thank everyone at the Club, but especially the gaffer, John Gregory, and my own gaffer (Kit Man Gary Doyle).''
