MANCIENNE MAKES DEBUT

Posted on: Wed 22 Aug 2007

Michael Mancienne made his England Under-21 debut against Romania on Tuesday night.

The Chelsea loanee entered the fray at half-time, as Stuart Pearce's men were held to a 1-1 draw at Ashton Gate.

Mancienne replaced Aston Villa defender Craig Gardner in the 46th minute, slotting in at right back in an orthodox 4-4-2 formation.

R's team-mate Dexter Blackstock was an unused substitute and he watched on as Gabriel Agbonlahor marked his recall to the side by crossing for Matt Derbyshire to tap England ahead in the eighth minute.

Romania levelled when Bogdan Stancu's free-kick from the edge of the area came back off the bar and went over the line off keeper Joe Hart's back.

The visitors had Cristian Scutaru sent off for two bookings, but despite late pressure, Pearce's side could not force a winner.
