THE LONE RANGER

Posted on: Sat 06 Sep 2008

Dexter Blackstock has no qualms about playing the lone striker role - and believes he's on course for another successful season in front of goal.

The R's front-man has been deployed as a lone striker so far this season, as Iain Dowie continues to experiment with a new-look 4-2-3-1 formation.

Understandably given his fine start to the season - which has yielded three goals in five starts - it's a role he's relishing.

"As long as I'm playing and scoring and we're picking up points, I don't mind being the lone striker up front," he told www.qpr.co.uk.

"It's not about me, it's about the team and if the Manager thinks that's best for the team, then that's it.

"I played on my own when I was on loan at Derby County, as well as a few times at Southampton, so I know the demands of the role."

Blackstock added: "I've been pleased with how I've started the season and of course I believe there are more goals to come from me.

"I got 14 in my first season and six in an interrupted campaign last year, so if I can stay fully-fit, I think I can reach my target."

However, unlike previous seasons, Blackstock has resisted the temptation to set himself a specific number this season - although he has earmarked one specific goal.

"There's no individual goal target as such this season," he explained.

"The only target is promotion. That is the ultimate goal and if I get the goals that get us there, then that's great."
