R'S MEET GRECIANS IN ROUND ONE

Posted on: Wed 17 Jun 2009

QPR will travel to League One outfit Exeter City in the first round of the Carling Cup.

Today's draw paired Jim Magilton's men with the League One side, in a tie to be played in the week commencing August 10th 2009.

Exeter have enjoyed an impressive revival in recent years.

After dropping out of the Football League for the first time in 83 years in 2003, Paul Tisdale's side have enjoyed back-to-back promotions in the last two seasons, culminating in a second place finish and subsequent promotion from League Two last season.

The last time the two Clubs met was in the 1965/66 season, when Rangers ran out 1-0 victors at home.

The R's enjoyed a memorable run to the fourth round stage of the Carling Cup last season.

After disposing of Swindon Town, Carlisle United and Premier League side Aston Villa in the opening three rounds, Rangers were handed another plum tie, with a trip to Old Trafford - the home of European Champions, Manchester United - in round four.

Despite a brave and gutsy performance, Carlos Tevez's 76th minute spot-kick won it for the Red Devils, who then went on to lift the trophy with victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Final.
