GAFFER READY FOR 'EMOTIONAL' RETURN

Posted on: Fri 12 Mar 2010

Neil Warnock is relishing a return to Bramall Lane - the home of his former Club, Sheffield United - tomorrow (Saturday), but is fully aware of the threat posed by the Blades.

Kevin Blackwell's side currently occupy ninth place in the Coca Cola Championship, lying four points adrift of the top-six.

Despite their strong position, Tuesday night's 1-0 defeat to basement boys Peterborough United saw some Blades fans calling for the Manager's head.

Warnock, however, isn't interested in United's dismal away form which has seen them lose seven Championship fixtures on the spin on their travels, and believes they are a formidable outfit in front of their own supporters.

"They're a very strong side at home," Warnock told www.qpr.co.uk.

"Forget their away form at the moment, the big thing for me is their home form, and they got a decent win against Plymouth Argyle at Bramall Lane recently.

"They're only four points off the play-offs, so they're still in the mix."

Warnock, who spent seven and a half successful seasons in the Bramall Lane hot-seat, is hoping to get a decent reception from the Blades supporters, adding: "I've always got a decent reception from the Blades fans, but it's probably wearing off a bit now!"

"But in all seriousness, it's always a great day out for me.

"I've got a lot of friends and family up there, so it will be an emotional occasion.

"We got battered up there with Palace, so we'll certainly be looking to get a positive result."

Warnock's impact in W12 has been quite startling since his appointment 11 days ago - guiding the R's to back-to-back victories in his two matches in charge.

High-flying West Bromwich Albion were put to the sword in emphatic style last weekend, before struggling Plymouth Argyle were swept aside with comparative ease on Tuesday evening.

And now the 61 year-old is ready for his first away day as QPR boss.

"We won't change our philosophy," he told www.qpr.co.uk.

"We'll go there looking to win the game.

"It will be my toughest test as QPR Manager. They'll be backed by 25,000 or so fans, so it will be another good challenge for the players.

"I'll be interested to see how the react to playing away from home, because it's my first taste of it at the Club."

Warnock added: "I've got no complaints so far.

"Of course there's plenty of room for improvement, but the lads have taken everything on board and Saturday presents them all with another chance to show me what they're made of."

Mikele Leigertwood appeared to be limping as he left the pitch on Tuesday night, but Warnock has revealed he expects a clean bill of health come Saturday afternoon.

"We've got one or two knocks, but everyone wants to play at the moment!" he said.

"The likes of Akos and Cooky have been a bit unlucky, because they were in the side before I came here but they missed training in my first week, so I had to make one or two decisions.

"Those lads that started against West Brom deserved their chance to shine again against Plymouth, so there's great competition."
