Queens Park Rangers are closing in on Chesterfield captain Ian Evatt.
The 23-year-old central defender is discussing personal terms with the Superhoops after a six-figure bid was lodged with the Spireites.
The bid triggered a clause in the former Derby County player's contract, allowing him to begin talks at Loftus Road, and it is understood that he could become a Rangers player in the next few days.
A versatile player, Evatt can also operate in midfield and was Chesterfield's Player of the Year in 2004.
He made his professional debut for Derby against Ipswich Town in the Premiership and went on to make 37 appearances for the Rams.
Chairman Bill Power confirmed that progress is being made and hopes to have further news later this week.
"The lad is on holiday at the moment," he said. "He is back on Friday and hopefully we will be able to sort everything out from there."
