'TIS THE SEASON

Posted on: Sun 17 Dec 2006

QPR have reached agreement with Chelsea to extend the loan deal of midfield starlet Jimmy Smith until the end of the season.

Smith - who joined the R's in late September and has made 13 Championship appearances, scoring five goals - will remain at Loftus Road until May 6th.

However, his existing loan period - which can only last for a maximum of 93 days under Football League regulations - expires on December 27th, therefore ruling him out of the R's final match of the calendar year against Norwich City at Carrow Road.

Gaffer John Gregory spoke of his delight at securing the midfielder's services for a further few months - and also indicated a further deal could be in the offing at the end of the campaign.

"I'm delighted,'' Gregory told www.qpr.co.uk.

"It's a great boost for the Club. He's been a true professional since the moment he arrived here and his impact has been immense.

"It will lift everyone and who knows what might happen in the future.''
