Joe Gallen failed to hide his disappointment, as the R's bowed out of the FA Youth Cup at the County Ground.

Ten-man Rangers succumbed to a 9-8 defeat in the sudden death shoot-out against Swindon, after extra-time failed to separate the two sides.

"We're gutted, but more disappointed with how we played on the night,'' Gallen told www.qpr.co.uk.

"We've played so much better than that in the last few weeks - that was way below the level we've been at recently.''

Romone Rose saw red for the R's and Gallen had no complaints with the referee's decision: "I didn't get a great view of the sending off. I think it was for violent conduct.

"There was a strong tackle and then he got up and pushed the guy, so I've got no complaints.''

Gallen added: "It was a tough match, but there can be no excuses.

"In the end it went to penalties which are a lottery, but we did well to get to that stage having played with ten men for so long. We showed a lot of bottle, but it's really, really disappointing.

"We'll take it on the chin. I'm in charge so I take responsibility for it, but I'm expecting a response this weekend.''

Gallen was full of praise for Andrew Howell and Aaron Goode - despite the latter missing the all-important spot-kick.

"Aaron was gutted, but I thought both him and Andrew Howell were excellent at the back and that was a big plus point on an otherwise disappointing night.''
