A Brief History of the QPR Prediction Competition This is the QPR Prediction Competition, 2009/2010. If you're new to the QPR Prediction Competition, welcome!
My name's Elliot Worth and I'm a QPR supporter of almost 30 years. The QPR Prediction Competition is something I have run and maintained for almost 15 years in its internet form. The idea came from a Prediction Competition some of the older R's fans may remember that appeared in the Club Programme for several years and was organised by Derek Buxton.
Initially my version of the online Competition constituted of a single, long table which grew in size as more people entered over the course of the season, but whom of course faced a disadvantage over their rivals who already had a head start. So, in 1997, the Competition was re-designed and split into a series of Leagues and the QPR season split into 4 quarters, each known as a "Mini-Season".
This meant that new entrants to the Prediction Competition had to start from the "Conference League", (now the Conference Two League due to the expansion in fans joining in). However, the Mini-League structure gave new entries 4 opportunities throughout the QPR League Season to earn Promotion to higher leagues, thus providing an incentive to keep predicting. The more consistent and accurate the fan, the quicker the trip to the Premier League where you can find the Creme de la Creme of QPR Predictors!
The Competition has come a long way in this time. Last season on average, over 250 fans from all over the world predicted each game.

SEASON 2009/2010: Updated 1st August 2009
New features:Default Prediction - Every mini-season you will be able to supply a default prediction that will be used for all fixtures during the season. Once submitted you will not be able to change this prediction or supply predictions for individual games. 1st Division - The First Division has been expanded from 25 predictors to 35. This has resulted in predictors in the 10 places below the promotion line in all following Leagues receiving a promotion to the next League up. Conference 3 - The Conference Three league has been removed. The Conference Two league will be the bottom league - all new entries will be placed into this League.

Match Rules and Joining Method: Joining Method:
- One entry per person per match ONLY.
- Entries CANNOT be changed once submitted. If more than one prediction is received by the same person the FIRST entry by received date is used when calculating points. Re-submissions are accepted ONLY in the event of a fixture postponement.
- Similarly, you are not allowed to change a chosen scorer if he should become unavailable for any reason after you have made you prediction. It is up to you to check on team news and judge whether he will be chosen to play. If a player you wish to choose as a goalscorer is not on the list, please let me know asap and I will add the name.
- Predictions must be received BEFORE kick-off - any that are received after kick-off will not be taken into consideration.
- You are also able to submit by Text Message. Send your name, league, prediction and goalscorer name to the following number: 07854 813633. You will be charged your standard Text Message fee, this is not a premium rate number. You will not receive receipt confirmation of your prediction.
- You must enter your full name when submitting your entry.
- Please enter your email address for verification of your identity in the event of any problems.
- All new entries must start in Conference Two.
- If you do not enter any games for a whole season, or predict 3 or less games and are consequently absent for most fixtures, you will be eliminated. If you wish to re-join the Competition you will have to start again from the Conference Three League. In the event of eliminations, there will be extra promotion places for predictors in lower leagues.
- You can join in the competition at ANY time by simply submitting a prediction for the next game, identifying yourself as a New Entrant for your first prediction.
- There is no fee to join, the competition is purely for FUN!
- If you know someone who wants to join in but who doesn't have email/web access they can still compete. Just complete the match form using THEIR name and YOUR email address.
Competition Structure Explained:
The Competition took on a more "dynamic" look 11 years ago. Instead of the single, long table, the competition was split into a series of mini-leagues with:
Premier (20 predictors)
Division 1 (35 predictors)
Division 2 (50 predictors)
Division 3 (50 predictors)
Conference One (50 predictors)
Conference Two (grows in size with new entries)
The competition is split into 4 quarters, each known as a Mini-Season. The first 2 mini-seasons consisting of 11 QPR games, the final 2 of 12 games. Note, ONLY QPR's Coca-Cola Championship games will count towards the League competition. At the end of each mini-season there will be promotion and relegation. To summarise at the end of each mini-season:
Premier <-> First Division = 5 down, 5 up.
First Div. <-> Second Div. = 10 down, 10 up.
Second Div. <-> Third Division = 10 down, 10 up.
Third Division <-> Conference One = 10 down, 10 up.
Conference One <-> Conference Two = 15 down, 15 up.
In the event of eliminations from the competition, further promotion spots may become available during a mini-season. Once relegation/promotion has been decided, points will be reset to 0 and a new mini-season will begin with the next QPR league fixture.
The Scoring System:
The Scoring System is made up of the following categories:
- Result Points
- Correct Score
- Home/Away Team Goals
- Goal Difference
- Correct QPR Goalscorer
- Bonus: High Scoring Thriller
- Bonus: Hat-Trick Hero
- Bonus: Mini-Season JOKER (Points are added when the JOKER has been played)
- Bonus: Prediction Competition 'Extra' (Points are added at the end of a Mini-Season)
The total score you can achieve for an individual fixture is the sum of categories 1 to 8:
[Result Points + Goal Difference + H/A Team Goals + Correct Scorer + Bonuses (if any)] = Total [x2 if JOKER played] Prediction Competition 'Extra' points are only attributed at the end of a Mini-Season.
NOTE: Prediction Competition 'Extra' points are only attributed at the end of a Mini-Season.
Result Points:
- Home Win / Away Loss: 2 points
- Draw (0-0, 1-1, 2-2 etc.): 3 points
Home Defeat / Away Win: 4 points
Examples:
You correctly predict QPR to beat Birmingam at Loftus Road or QPR to lose to Norwich at Carrow Road = 2 points
You correctly predict QPR to draw with Bristol City (home or away) = 3 points
You correctly predict QPR to beat Crystal Palace at the Selhurst Park or QPR to lose to West Brom at Loftus Road = 4 points
Correct Score:
- Correct Score: 1 point
Example:
You predict QPR 2 Doncaster 1.
Actual Result = QPR 2 Doncaster 1.
You score 1 point for predicting the correct score (in addition to other relevant points).
Home/Away Team Goals:
- Home Team Goals Correct: 1 point
- Away Team Goals Correct: 1 point
Example:
You predict QPR 2 Norwich 1.
Actual Result = QPR 1 Norwich 1
You score 1 point for predicting Norwich's goal tally.
Goal Difference:
- Correct Goal Difference (Wins/Losses ONLY): 1 point
Example:
You predict 2-1 to QPR
Actual result is 1-0 to QPR.
Goal difference 1 goal = 1 point.
NOTE: You only gain this point if you are incorrect with your prediction. If you predicted 1-0 to QPR, you wouldn't get this extra point, only if you predicted 2-1,3-2,4-3,5-4 and so on. This is because you receive maximum points for Home and Away goals and Correct Score (a total of 3 points). The Goal Difference point is a compensation point for coming close to the margin of the actual result.
Points Matrix:Note the points table below does not include any points related to the goalscorer - these are added according to the playing position of the player and the number of goals they score.

Correct QPR Goalscorer:
You can only select the name of one QPR squad player to act as your chosen Goalscorer. Alternatively, you can predict for there to be 'No QPR Goalscorer' or for the opposition to score an own goal. If your chosen player scores you pick up points as explained above:
- Classified as a Forward: 1 point / goal
- Classified as a Midfielder: 2 points / goal
- Classified as a Defender: 3 points / goal
- Classified as a Goalkeeper: 5 points / goal
- No QPR Goalscorer: 1 point
- Own goal for QPR scored by Opposition: 2 points / goal
(The list of players on the prediction forms will be updated when QPR buy/sell players).
Note: If you predict QPR 0 Reading 0 then you *cannot* go on to predict a QPR scorer - the option you must select is "No QPR goalscorer". Choosing a Scorer name will render this part of your prediction invalid for scoring points. Similarly, if you predict a result of QPR 1 Reading 1, you must choose a Player's Name or Own Goal as an option, if you selected "No QPR Goalscorer", again, your Goalscorer prediction would be invalid.
Bonuses:
1 point
- High Scoring Thriller (5 goals or more)= 2 points
Example:
You correctly predict a 3-2 win for QPR = 2 points given that there were 5 goals in the game. Note, if QPR lose 2-3 or win 4-2 for example, you do NOT get these bonus points, only if you predict the exact result.
- Hat-Trick Hero= 3 points. (The 'standard' points gained by your chosen scorer will also be included).
Examples:
Rowan Vine scores 3 goals = 1 point x 3 goals + 3 point bonus = (1x3)+3= 6 points
Martin Rowlands scores 3 goals = 2 points x 3 goals + 3 point bonus = (2x3)+3= 9 points
Kaspars Gorkks scores 3 goals = 3 point x 3 goals + 3 point bonus = (3x3)+3= 12 points
This multiplier is also used should the player score more than 3 goals.
- Prediction Competition 'Extra'
Predict QPR's League Position & Points total by the end of each Competition Mini-Season. Predictions must be received before the 5th game of each mini-season kicks-off:
Mini-Season 1 ends after 11 games
Mini-Season 2 ends after 22 games
Mini-Season 3 ends after 34 games
Mini-Season 4 ends after 46 games
Bonus points are allocated as follows:
QPR LEAGUE POSITION:
Correct = 2 points
1 place either side = 1 point
QPR LEAGUE POINTS:
Correct = 2 points
1 point either side =
BOTH CORRECT: If both POINTS and POSITION are correct 2 further points are added.
This give a maximum total of 6 points.
Example:
By the end of Mini-Season 4 you predict QPR's POSITION will be 6th with 70 Points.
In reality, after 46 league games QPR are 7th with 69 points:
You score: 1 Points for QPR LEAGUE POSITION and 1 Point for QPR LEAGUE POINTS = 2 bonus points.
These points, should you score any, are added to your final season total and may well prove vital in ensuring promotion or saving you from relegation.
Joker Double points. You are allowed to choose 1 game per season to act as a 'joker' round. Simply, you will double your points from the game you choose. They will be added to the Bonus column in the table.
Fixture List:
Go to the Fixture List page for a list of future fixtures available to predict as well as past results and the Maximum possible Prediction points for each game completed.
Prediction Forms/Viewing Tables/Submitting Predictions:
League Tables, Prediction Forms and other information is posted / uploaded to both the QPR Prediction Competition Mailing List and the Prediction Competition Website as soon as is possible. The Mailing List will always receive updates first so if you are desperate to know how you did or need reminders to make your prediction please join this email list. Mail activity is light with only a few messages per week.
Each Prediction League has an email list which is used to distribute the latest League Tables. Prediction Competition Reminder Forms are sent out 3 times per fixture. Prediction Cup news and other information is also distributed when required. . You will receive details on how to subscribe for the relevant League Table Mailing List on joining this list.
Updates to the Competition Website and Email Distribution Lists are made as soon as possible after a fixture has been completed. In some cases it is not always possible to distribute the tables until a couple of days after the fixture due to time constraints, however, I will always endeavour to forewarn predictors of a delay in the distribution.

The QPR Prediction Cup 2009/2010:
The QPR Prediction Cup is a secondary competition that runs in parallel with the League competition. As well as earning points to improve your League status, for specified games, the points you score will also count towards your cup tie, to progress you simply need to score more points than the predictor you have been drawn against. In the event of a draw a replay will be required and if this is drawn too the "away goals" rule will be enforced with whoever scoring the most when they were "away", going through. If you lose your tie, you are out and will be left to concentrate on the league!
The Prediction Cup normally begins in November. The Preliminary round consists of predictors from Conference Leagues. Following the 2nd Preliminary Round, predictors from all Leagues, from Premier to Conference are pitched against each other. If you join the Competition after the beginning of the Cup it's too late to join in but you will be able to try against next QPR season.
