VERSATILE defender James Perch began his career with his boyhood club Nottingham Forest.
He made 22 league appearances in his debut season for the Reds, with his first professional goal arriving in the 63rd minute of a League Cup third round tie against Doncaster Rovers.
He went on to make over 200 appearances at the City Ground before signing for Newcastle United in July 2010, for a fee believed to be £1.5 million.He made his Newcastle debut against Manchester United and as fate would have it, he scored his only goal for the Toon Army came against the Red Devils in a 4-3 defeat at Old Trafford.
During his time at St. James' Park, he became affectionately known by Newcastle fans as 'Perchinho.'He made 80 appearances in all competitions for the Geordies, before completing a move to Wigan Athletic, signing a four-year contract.
Perch made his league debut for the Latics in a 4-0 away victory over Barnsley. He scored his first goal for the club in a 2-1 win against Premier League Manchester City, helping holders Wigan to the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the second year in a row.
He also scored in the Latics' Championship Play-off semi-final second leg against Rangers at Loftus Road, only for a Charlie Austin double to send Rangers to Wembley at the expense of Uwe Rosler's side.
He was named Players’ Player of the Year in his debut campaign, and continued to be a regular throughout the 2014/15 campaign, skippering the Latics in 42 appearances in all competitions; scoring the opening goal in a 3-1 defeat at Blackburn Rovers, an equaliser in the 2-2 draw at Wolves; and the winner as Latics defeated Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 at the DW Stadium in April. He picked up the Players’ Player of the Year award again at the end of the 2014/15 season, as the Latics were relegated to League One.
In July 2015 Perch became Rangers seventh summer signing of the transfer window joining for an undisclosed fee. He went on to rack up 37 appearances during his debut season for the club.
