Joy of Moving

Interactive health education

The Joy of Moving Programme is a national school-based educational programme for children aged between 9-10 that has been developed by the EFL Trust and Ferrero.

By combining six weeks of practical sporting sessions with classroom sessions, the programme encourages physical activity, promotes nutritional education and builds awareness of the importance of a balanced diet and active lifestyle.

In the 2017/18 academic year QPR in the Community Trust worked with 19 schools in the Shepherds Bush area, engaging with over 900 school children.

1. Each year we give schools the opportunity to attend a QPR home fixture and partake in pitch-side activities. Prior to kick-off, children are invited on the pitch to watch the players warm up, they are announced to the crowd and official pictures are taken before the children partake in the guard of honour as players walk onto the pitch. Finally, at half-time the children take part in a penalty shoot-out against our mascot, Jude the Cat.

Our Joy of Moving Festivals compliment the Joy of Moving Programme. Taking place predominantly in the Summer term, the Joy of Moving Festivals involves the full school from reception all the way through to Year 6, and even the teachers!

The Festivals help develop each child in five major areas: physical fitness, motor (bodily) coordination, cognitive functions, creativity (mental reasoning), and life skills.

The Festivals first piloted in 2018 reaching out to hundreds of schools nationwide engaging thousands of children aged 4-11.

In 2018 we delivered a Joy of Moving Festival in 2 different schools, engaging with 750 children.
