Health & Inclusion

Our Health and Inclusion programmes run by QPR in the Community Trust.

Para-Football:

QPR in the Community Trust’s Para-Football teams consist of a variety of participants who although having different disabilities are able to come together through the power of football. We currently have two different training sessions each week, with the team’s playing in monthly, local, regional, and national leagues.

The project itself is able to give many benefits to disabled people, including reducing social isolation, increasing social interaction and competitive opportunities.

QPR's TIGER CUBS:

QPR's Tiger Cubs was formed in 2008 and became the second ever DSActive team, in partnership with the Downs Syndrome Association, we are able to provide football activities run by qualified coaches, which promotes active lifestyles and improve social, physical and healthy wellbeing for all ages and abilities.

QPR's Tiger Cubs have training session which run three times a week across three different London Boroughs.

The Project provides adults, young people and children with Downs Syndrome the same opportunity to train and play football matches, whilst representing QPR as their peers.

The project addresses the exclusion of children with a disability in mainstream sport, usually with no chance to play for a team.

Through football, this project aims to create a multi-tier learning environment that will improve the participants' overall physical, social and emotional health. The weekly sessions also help to increase fitness, balance and coordination skills.

With the sessions also contributing to improved teamwork and communication skills benefit, with many of our participants now able to forge some  strong friendships.

For many of the Cubs, this is also one of the few opportunities (other than school) that they are able to interact with adults other than their parents, whilst also interacting with other people with DS.
