Rangers suffer SSE Women's FA Cup exit
QPR LADIES’ involvement in this season’s SSE Women’s FA Cup ended with defeat at Charlton Athletic on Sunday.
Rangers more than matched the FA Women’s Premier League leaders early on in south London, but three controversial refereeing decisions either side of half-time turned the tie against them.
The first came four minutes before the interval. After the ball had seemingly gone safely behind for a goalkick, a corner was awarded from which Kit Graham’s header found the net.
That was compounded moments later when Rangers were harshly penalised for a foul just outside the box. Again they were made to pay, as Charlotte Gurr curled the resulting free-kick into the bottom corner.
2-0 became 3-0 seven minutes after the midway point when Rangers were adjudged to have handled inside the area. Gurr stepped up to dispatch the spot-kick.
Rangers battled valiantly but in vein as Gurr’s third of the afternoon and a strike from Kim Dixson confirmed the R’s exit.
QPR Ladies: Kasirye, Glynn, Petit, Peacock, Deluca, Bytyqi, Hogan (Hennessy 58), Knell, Adeyemo (Lynch 58), Maggs, Netschova.
