Rangers concede late leveller at Honeycroft

QPR LADIES suffered late heartbreak on Sunday as Chichester City salvaged a point at Honeycroft.

The game began at a high pace and Martino Chevannes’ side took the lead in just the second minute when Amanda Chimbima's shot squirmed over the line.

After going behind so early on, Chichester tried to hit back at the R’s – testing ‘keeper Gillian Kasirye in the Rangers goal before Hollie Wride came close by hitting the crossbar.

Chichester continued to press the hosts’ backline but the QPR defence remained strong and shut down any threat opposed by the visitors.

The Hoops goal was well guarded by Kasirye, who shortly after saved Gemma Simmonds’ fierce shot.

Chichester continued to look for an equaliser, with Chekelle Khassal missing a glorious chance to draw level.

The pressure led to Chichester being awarded a penalty after Mara Deluca was harshly penalised in the box. But there were sighs of relief all round Honeycroft and a sense that justice had been done when Kerrie Ryan blasted her spot-kick over the bar.

Rangers continued to weather the Chichester storm as the visitors wasted another excellent chance. Jess Lewry this time was unlucky to see her shot hit the inside of the post and bounce out.

Chichester carried on the momentum from the first half but remained wasteful in front goal, with Wride and Tiffany Taylor both guilty of missing the target.

QPR sat back and soaked up the pressure from the visitors and had chances to extend their lead but couldn’t find the finish to the build-up play.

Rangers were still composed and shut down another attack before Ryan missed another glorious chance for Chichester.

Disaster then struck for the hosts when Kasirye, who was having a fine game, was finally beaten when Simmonds was unmarked and produced a fine finish.

Things almost got worse for QPR at the end when Taylor missed a chance to steal it for Chichester as Rangers had to settle for a share of the spoils.

QPR Ladies: Kasirye, Peacock, Petit, Deluca, Odeniyi, Harte (Haridas), Netschova, Lynch, Chimbima, Maggs, Knell (Ismael).

Goal: Chimbima 2.
