Day to forget in Wales for R’s youth

PAUL Furlong’s QPR Under-18s lost 3-1 to their Cardiff City counterparts on Saturday.

Ody Alfa’s 47th-minute equaliser hauled Rangers level in south Wales, but two more replies from the hosts meant Rangers travelled back down the M4 empty-handed.

Rangers trailed at the break after falling behind on 18 minutes. Having conceded possession in their own half, Cardiff took full advantage with a devastating finish into the top corner from 18 yards.

City’s lead only lasted until two minutes into the second half, though. After the ball broke the R’s way in the box, Alfa made no mistake with a clinical finish underneath the home goalkeeper.

Rangers weren’t level for long, however. Just two minutes later City restored their lead, ending a free-flowing move with a low finish across Myles Bowman and into the far corner.

The hosts set the seal on victory 14 minutes from time with a penalty. After Rangers were penalised for a trip, Bowman got a hand to the resulting spot-kick but to no avail.

Furlong’s youngsters return to Professional Development League action away to Birmingham City in a fortnight’s time.

QPR: Bowman, Eales, Genovesi, Folkes, Fox, Mickel, Akinola, Rollinson (Kendall 46), Francis, Bansal-McNulty (Remy 65), Alfa.
