Bluebirds come out on top

QPR UNDER-18S were edged out in a five-goal contest with Cardiff City on Saturday.

Aiden Mesias and Rhys Springer-Downes found the net for Paul Furlong’s side, but they weren’t enough to prevent the visitors taking all three points from Harlington.

City broke the deadlock on 22 minutes. A free-kick from the right wasn’t dealt with, giving the visitors a simple headed finish at the far post.

They doubled their lead six minutes into the second-half. A long ball from City’s goalkeeper caught out the R’s backline, while Marcin Brzozowski could do nothing with the lob which followed from it.

Rangers responded well, though, and halved the deficit six minutes later. A cross from the right was converted by Mesias sliding in from the opposite flank.

But City’s two-goal cushion was soon restored. This time a corner caused havoc in six-yard box, where a City player got the final touch to divert the ball home from close range.

It would prove enough, despite Rangers pulling a second goal back in stoppage time. Brandon Barzey’s perseverance down the right saw him cross for fellow full-back Springer-Downes, who made no mistake from six yards.
