Six goal thriller at Harlington ends in draw
QPR UNDER-18S shared six goals – and four penalties – with Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
In a topsy-turvy affair at Harlington, Rangers led through Josh Bowler’s early penalty but twice had to come from behind with Bowler’s second spot-kick of the afternoon levelling the scores late on.
The same player then had the chance to complete the comeback with a hat-trick of penalties, but his third was kept out as Paul Furlong’s side had to settle for a point.
Rangers came flying out of the traps – awarded their first penalty of the day inside 60 seconds. Bowler was upended in the box, before dusting himself down to send the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot.
The lead lasted just six minutes, though. This time Charlton were handed a penalty of their own to quickly restore parity.
And they went in front on 21 minutes. Rangers failed to clear their lines in the six-yard box, allowing the Addicks striker to slide the ball past Myles Bowman in the R’s goal.
That’s the way it stayed until the hour-mark. Romeo Akinola hauled Rangers back level, finishing off a neat move from 12 yards.
However, Charlton were back in front when a looping cross was headed home at the far post.
Rangers weren’t to be denied, though. Another penalty 11 minutes from time handed Bowler the chance to repeat his earlier feat, finding the same bottom right-hand corner.
And he had the chance to win it at the death. After the referee pointed to the spot for a fourth time, Bowler was denied as the Addicks goalkeeper went the right way to make the save.
