Rangers show steel against Sheffield to secure draw
A QUICK-fire double from Josh Bowler earned QPR Under-18s a point against Sheffield United on Saturday.
Paul Furlong’s side trailed with 15 minutes to go, but two goals from Bowler in three minutes turned things around.
The R’s couldn’t hold on for victory, though, with United’s equaliser six minutes from time ensuring the spoils were shared at Harlington.
After an even first 45 minutes, Rangers fell behind deep into first-half stoppage time. A free-kick from the right wasn’t dealt with, allowing the Blades to prod the loose ball home from close-range.
It remained 1-0 until 15 minutes from time, when two goals in quick succession swung the game in Rangers’ favour.
First Bowler headed in at the far post after a shot was only parried by the Blades goalkeeper, before finishing off a fine solo effort. After beating his marker down the right flank, Bowler cut in and arrowed a shot into the far corner.
The lead didn’t last, though. The visitors levelled late on with an effort similar to Bowler’s second, jinking inside the box before squeezing a shot in at the near post.
