Hornets sting Rangers in narrow win

AJ Folkes’ penalty wasn’t enough to earn QPR Under-18s a point in a tight contest with Watford on Saturday.

Paul Furlong’s side fell behind midway through the first period at Harlington when Watford netted a spot-kick of their own, but Rangers were level just two minutes later.

After a foul in the box, Folkes stepped up to send the Hornets goalkeeper the wrong way from 12 yards.

The hosts had the final say, though. After a sweeping counter-attack, Myles Bowman made a save from point-blank range but couldn’t keep out the rebound with what would proved the winning goal.

Rangers travel to south Wales to face Cardiff City this weekend (kick-off 12pm).

QPR: Bowman, Barzey, Genovesi, Folkes (Mesias 46), Fox, Trialist (Eales 65), Trialist (Gilbert 63), Akinola, Alfa, Kifwasima, Bansal-McNulty.

Goal: Folkes pen 25.
