QPR U18s were beaten by Crystal Palace in a seven-goal thriller in Professional Development League 2 South on Friday.

In what was Rangers’ first away match of 2020, Paul Furlong’s side took the lead but they were unable to hold onto it as Palace fought back to claim the points.

The R’s went in front on 19 minutes when Hamzad Kargbo got onto the end of Alex Aoraha’s high ball into the box to head past Palace goalkeeper Jacob Russell.

Parity was restored two minutes later, though, when Jude Russell struck from close range and the Eagles then nudged in front through Brandon Aveiro’s neat finish.

The Eagles made it three on the stroke of half-time. Tetteh-Quaye Addy found the bottom corner and the south Londoners got their fourth on the hour mark when Aiden Steele rounded off a neat team move.

Rangers hadn’t given up and Kargbo’s second of the afternoon brought them back into contention, only for Palace to grab a fifth through Aveiro’s second goal of the match on 73 minutes.

QPR U18s: Little, Paiva, Mahorn, Hawkins (Eze 60), McLean, Orafu (Frailing 45), Hayes, Trialist (Griffiths 65), Aoraha, Mema, Kargbo.

Subs (not used): Middlehurst.
