QPR’S U18s kicked off their 2019/20 Professional Development League 2 South campaign by edging a seven-goal thriller against Barnsley on Saturday.
In a game full of twists and turns, the young R’s found themselves 2-0 down inside 10 minutes before Dillon De Silva notched just after the half-hour mark to halve the deficit.
Hamzad Kargbo hauled Rangers level less than two minutes into the second half and the powerful defender then bagged his second of the game on 60 minutes – this time a stunning strike – to put his side ahead for the first time.
The drama wasn’t over, though, and the Tykes levelled the scores at 3-3 20 minutes from time. And it looked as if the opening-day clash would end all-square but five minutes from time Armelindo Mema netted the game’s decisive goal from just insise the penalty area.
The result saw Paul Furlong’s side make a winning start to the new season and they will hope to build on that when they head to Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
