Leeds United U23s v QPR U23s
A JOSH Bowler penalty secured QPR Under-23s a 1-0 win against Leeds United at Elland Road on Monday night.
The R’s winger struck from the spot in the 36th minute to hand Paul Hall’s side all three points in the Professional Development League Two fixture.
That came after Rangers had already missed from the spot after 13 minutes when Aramide Oteh was fouled by Paudie O’Connor in the box, but Oteh slipped when taking the resulting penalty and fired over the Whites crossbar.
Leeds failed to threaten the QPR goal with only Jack Vann shooting over from 35-yards before Oteh fired wide for the R’s at the other end.
Goalscorer Bowler then forced an excellent save from Leeds keeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell after he weaved his way through the hosts defence before the 17-year-old won his penalty.
Bowler went down following a challenge by Clarke Oduor before picking himself up and making no mistake from 12-yards to hand the Under-23s the lead at the break.
In the second half, Bowler picked up where he left off, going close with a 25-yard free-kick before Oteh was played in by Charlie Owens in the 49th minute but he was denied by the Leeds keeper.
QPR restricted Leeds to half chances with Stokes seeing his effort deflected wide before Tom Pearce’s free-kick from 25-yards was just off target.
The lively Bowler then had a chance to wrap up the win 11 minutes from time when he broke into the hosts area but he failed to finish off the chance he had fashioned, but the R’s held on to win.
QPR: Dieng, Paul, Genovesi (Barzey 70), Owens, Arthur, Finney, Bowler, Folkes, Oteh, Mesias, Crichlow (Darbyshire 60).
