Six goal thriller as Under-23s share spoils

CREWE Alexandra came from behind twice to eventually draw 3-3 with QPR Under-23s at Harlington.

Dan Darbyshire scored a brace for the R’s – one from the spot – while Brandon Adams also netted a penalty during an entertaining game on Monday afternoon.

Despite ending as a six-goal thriller, the deadlock in this game wasn’t broken until the 38th minute. The visitors took the lead through Daniel Udoh, with the striker smashing the ball beyond Marcin Brzozowski in the QPR goal.

Prior to that strike, the R’s had a couple of half-chances, Darbyshire flashing a shot wide before being denied courtesy of a fine save by David Richards in the Crewe goal.

Niko Hamalainen also went close following a fine solo run down the left before his effort was tipped around the post.

The R’s drew level nine minutes after the re-start. Ryan Manning brilliantly won possession in the centre of the park before playing a perfectly-weighted through-ball, which Darbyshire latched onto before coolly slotting home from 14 yards.

Seven minutes later, the R’s were in front thanks to a fine spot-kick from Brandon Adams, smashing the ball into the roof of the net and giving Richards no chance.

But in an open game, the scoring was far from complete. Oliver Finney blazed over for the visitors in the 69th minute before Udoh shot wide moments later.

They were the warning signs for QPR, and in the 74th minute, Crewe were level. Owen Dale picked the ball up in space on the left, and he calmly passed the ball into the far corner to make it 2-2.

But parity only lasted two minutes, as Rangers restored their lead with their second penalty of the afternoon. QPR sub Michael Klass was brought down in the box by Taylor Sheeran, and this time Darbyshire took on the responsibility from 12 yards to put Rangers 3-2 up.

But there was still time for one final twist in this game, and it arrived in the 85th minute as Crewe grabbed a share of the spoils with a Lewis Reilly strike.
