Four star Under-23s record Loftus Road win

A FOUR star performance from QPR’s Under-23 side on Friday afternoon saw the R’s secure a 4-1 victory at Loftus Road.

Goals from Dan Darbyshire, Brandon Adams, Cole Kpekawa and Eberechi Eze sealed the win for Paul Hall’s team in scorching conditions in W12.

The hosts went close to opening the scoring after a quarter of an hour when Brandon Barzey headed Ryan Manning’s deflected free-kick wide of the post.

However, the young charges didn't have to wait long to go in front when Dan Darbyshire handed the R’s the lead on 19 minutes after he beat visiting keeper Michael Crowe inside the area.

The R’s doubled their advantage three minutes later when a strong strike from Brandon Comley from the the edge of the box struck the post and Brandon Adams reacted quickest to lift the ball over Crowe from six-yards to make it 2-0.

Town custodian Crowe then made a good save from Darbyshire before following it up with a second block from the impressive QPR number 10 Eberechi Eze.

QPR’s Polish stopper Marcin Brzozowski was called into action for the first time five minutes before the break to make a really good save from Adam McDonnell before Niko Hamalainen went close to making it three.

The Finland youth international got up well to turn Brandon Comley’s cross towards goal with his head but Crowe clawed it away before Eze went close again soon after with a low strike from 10-yards but the keeper was equal once more.

Following QPR’s dominance in the first half Ipswich Town came back into the match after the break and they pulled a goal back after 73 minutes following a defensive mistake.

R’s keeper Brzozowski found himself stranded out of his box and Ipswich striker Ben Morris raced through on goal to round him into the empty net and make it 2-1.

Hall’s side responded through substitute Axel Prohouly whose shot from 25-yards was pushed around the post by Crowe for a corner before another mix-up at the back between Kpekawa and Brzozowski nearly allowed Morris to equalise ten minutes from time.

However, Kpekawa atoned for his error six minutes from time when he fired in from 20-yards with a power left foot drive to make it 3-1 after QPR had won a free-kick on the edge of the box.

There was still time for a fourth as Eze did well to force the keeper into a mistake before he slot in from close range to complete the 4-1 victory.

QPR: Brzozowski, Barzey, Hamalainen, Comley, Arthur (Williams 77), Kpekawa, Darbyshire, Akinola (Klass 46), Adams, Eze, Manning (Prohouly 62).
