Under-23s go down at Hillsborough
QPR UNDER-23S went down to a solitary goal at Hillsborough on Friday afternoon.
Paul Hall’s side piled on the pressure in search of a point, but George Hirst’s early strike ultimately proved enough for the Professional Development League (North) leaders.
Rangers were behind inside three minutes. Michael Donahue picked out Hirst in the box, who coolly slotted beyond the clutches of Seny Dieng.
Dieng denied Hirst adding a second, though. Donahue and Hirst combined again but this time the R’s goalkeeper kept out the striker’s header with a smart save.
And Dieng thwarted the same player after the re-start. Hirst looked certain to net when he was set clear, but his effort was superbly tipped onto the post by the R’s goalkeeper.
And he was so nearly rewarded as Rangers went close at the other end. First Reece Grego-Cox fired just wide, before Danny Rowe saw a close-range header repelled by Owls ‘stopper Dan Wallis.
Rowe threatened again when his effort was blocked inside the box and the R’s were frustrated in stoppage time when Ilias Chair’s audacious attempt was clawed away by Wallis.
Next up for Hall’s side is Hull City at Loftus Road on Monday 20th March.
QPR: Dieng, Paul, Hamalainen, Eze, Arthur, Finney, Rowe, Mesias, Grego-Cox, Chair, Bowler (Crichlow 70).
