QPR sting Hornets in season finale

QPR UNDER-23S signed off their Professional Development League season in style after a convincing win against Watford on Friday.

Paul Hall’s side dominated throughout at Vicarage Road and deservedly led at half-time courtesy of goals from Aramide Oteh and Josh Bowler.

The young R’s extended their advantage in the second through Ebere Eze, who set the seal on victory with the pick of goals from 25 yards.

Rangers – in confident mood after Monday’s 7-1 thrashing of Colchester United – continued where they left off, and were almost in front inside 90 seconds. Oteh’s flick from trialist Kris Owens’ cross was headed for the top corner before Nathan Gartside clawed the ball away.

Gartside was beaten from the R’s next attack, though. Ebere Eze’s through pass fed Oteh, who made no mistake this time with a clinical finish into the far corner.

Only the woodwork denied Rangers a second soon after – Eze left the Watford defence trailing with a sublime piece of skill in the box only to see his shot cannon back off the post.

Oteh twice went close to adding to his tally before the half-hour mark. After firing a shot just over, the same player had a header blocked on the line.

Rangers weren’t to be denied, though. Bowler pounced on a slip in the Watford defence before beating Gartside after a jinking run into the box to deservedly double the R’s lead going into half-time.

Watford went on the frontfoot after the re-start. Seny Dieng was called upon to keep out Ogo Obi, before making an even better stop to thwart Alex Jakubiak one-on-one.

Rangers soon found their groove again, though. Oteh and Eze combined well in the box but the latter’s shot was kept out by Gartside from point-blank range.

But there was no stopping Eze’s next effort moments later, crashing home an unstoppable shot from 25 yards to seal victory.
