QPR U23s v Charlton Athletic U23s - Professional Development League Two South - Monday, 8th January 2018 - Harlington

QPR UNDER-23S started 2018 with a five-star showing against Charlton Athletic on Monday.

Two goals apiece from Bright Osayi-Samuel and Aramide Oteh set Rangers on their way before substitute Chay Tilt added a fifth during a one-sided afternoon at Harlington.

There was also good news on the injury front, with James Perch lasting the full 90 minutes as the defender continues his recovery from long-term injury.

Paul Hall named a strong side against the Addicks with plenty of first team experience. Perch lined up alongside Joel Lynch in central defence, while there were also starts for the likes of Darnell Furlong, Ryan Manning and Osayi-Samuel.

After a tight opening, it was the latter who made the breakthrough with the first opportunity of note just after the half-hour mark. Olamide Shodipo burst down the right and, after his cross was spilled, Osayi-Samuel bundled the ball home.

The goal sparked Rangers into life, who wasted no time in trying to find a second.

Shodipo went close to providing one when his next cross clipped the crossbar, but it wasn’t long before they did find the net again.

Osayi-Samuel and Manning this time combined down the left to find Oteh inside the six-yard box, who slid the ball past Ed Harvey in the visiting goal.

Charlton should have reduced the deficit soon after when Alfie Doughty somehow missed the target inside the box, but they had Harvey to thank for keeping out Osayi-Samuel at the other end when he was denied from point-blank range in the final minute of the half.

Osayi-Samuel wasn’t to be denied a second, though. The pacey frontman added the R’s third within four minutes of the re-start, bursting forward from halfway before sliding the ball past Harvey with ease.

And it was 4-0 by the hour-mark. Oteh grabbed his second of the afternoon, coolly tucking away Shodipo’s cross from the right into the far corner.

Oteh made way for Tilt shortly after, and it was the substitute who added the fifth. After Charlton failed to clear their lines, Tilt smashed the loose ball into the roof of the net.

Rangers had chances to extend their lead even further late on but it was Charlton who completed the scoring. The visitors mustered a late consolation through Jo Cummings’ header, but the afternoon belonged to Rangers.
