Chairboys defeat young R's at Harlington
QPR UNDER-23s lost narrowly to Wycombe Wanderers’ senior side in a behind-closed-doors pre-season friendly on Saturday.
Nasser El Khayati was on target for the young R's at Harlington, but goals either side from Dayle Southwell and Paris Cowan-Hall gave the visitors victory.
Wycombe came closest to opening the scoring half an hour in. One-time R’s midfielder Marcus Bean let fly from distance only to see his effort smack the crossbar.
The Chairboys were ahead by half-time, however, following a foul on Sam Saunders in the box a minute before the break. Southwell stepped up to beat Joe Lumley in the R’s goal.
The lead didn’t last long, though, as Rangers responded 13 minutes after the interval. El Khayati jinked his way past another former R, Michael Harriman, before sliding his shot into the far corner.
The all-important third goal would come at the other end, though. Harriman turned provider to set up Cowan-Hall inside the 18-yard box, who gave Lumley no chance with a simple finish into the bottom corner.
QPR U23s: Lumley, Kakay, Williams, Comley, Paul, Finney, Darbyshire (Tilt 65), Marlow, Eshun (Platt 55), Rowe (Alfa 75), El Khayati (Zenon 65).
