QPR striker Conor Washington boosted his chances of a Euro 2016 call-up on the eve of Northern Ireland’s squad announcement with a goal in their 3-0 win against Belarus
Irish boss Michael O’Neill names his 23-man squad for the finals in France at lunchtime on Saturday.
And R’s forward Washington will hope he has done enough in his three appearances for the Green Army to have earned a place in the team.
Washington doubled Northern Ireland’s lead against Belarus at Windsor Park in Belfast on the stroke of half-time when he converted Stuart Dallas’ ball into the box.
The 24-year-old worked his way onto the scoresheet after strike partner Kyle Lafferty had handed the hosts the lead five minutes into the match.
He made way in the 61st minute for Jamie Ward before Will Grigg added a late third for the hosts.
Washington will now be hoping that his two goals in recent friendlies has been enough to earn a place in O’Neill’s side.
