SHAUN Derry has left QPR to become the new manager of League One side Notts County.
The 35 year-old, who was on loan at Millwall, began his playing career with the Magpies almost 20 years ago and he is now preparing for his first stint in management.
Derry joined QPR in the summer of 2010 from Crystal Palace and was an instrumental figure as the club won the Championship in his first season at Loftus Road.
His passion, work-rate and commitment made him a huge fans’ favourite and he showed he possessed the ability to play at the highest level on these shores as he went on to make a total of 47 appearances for the club in the Premier League.
The combative midfielder only scored one goal during his time in W12, but it will live long in the memory for QPR fans. With the R’s 2-0 down at home to Liverpool with just 13 minutes remaining in March 2012, Derry’s headed goal inspired the team to an incredible 3-2 victory. It was a result that many recognise as the catalyst for an amazing run of form which saw the club stave off relegation in 2011/12.
Derry made 99 appearances in all competitions for QPR, and the club offers him our sincerest thanks for his fantastic service during his 3-and-a-half years in west London.
We would also like to extend to him our very best wishes for the future.
