QPR’s Olamide Shodipo made his first appearance for the Republic if Ireland’s Under-19 side on Saturday evening.
The R’s winger was handed his first start in a friendly against the Ukraine at Limerick’s Markets Field stadium.
Shodipo completed 67 minutes before he was replaced by Jamie Aherne after the Ukrainians took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Victor Tsygankov’s corner was headed home by Sergey Chobotenko.
When Dan Casey was sent off nine minutes from time for a second bookable offence Ireland’s hopes of snatching a draw looked over, before Danny Kane scored from 12-yards in the dying moments.
Shodipo will be hoping to be involved again on Monday afternoon when Ireland U19s face the Ukraine again, kick-off 1pm.
