Breaking News

QPR’S Under-21s fly out from west London today (Saturday) to join Chris Ramsey’s senior side for pre-season in Italy.

Paul Hall’s youngsters face two fixtures of their own during a seven-day stay in Arona – approximately 11 miles south from where Ramsey and co. are based in Stresa.

Rangers – who include Tyler Blackwood amongst their ranks after he signed a one-year deal on Friday – kick-off against Serie D side Verbania Calcio on Monday 13th July before concluding their overseas stint against Swiss outfit FC Lugano five days later.

“This will be a really beneficial tour for us,” Hall, who was promoted to Under-21s manager last month, told www.qpr.co.uk. “We’re only up the road from the First Team, which gives the management a chance to have a look at the Under-21s, and see how they’re developing.

“The presence of the First Team, and the fact they are likely to be at our games, will give our players an added incentive. It gives everyone an added incentive – that’s what Chris and Les are all about.

“We will be working on fitness, a style of play, seeing how the boys are gelling and how we can move forward as a football team.

“We want to improve all the players as individuals, first and foremost. That’s my mandate – improve them as individual players; that’s what I’m here to do.

“The way I see it, if I’ve got 20 players then I’ve got 20 individual programmes I need to work on. I was a player for 20 years and have been a coach for quite a few years now, and I want to pass on my knowledge. It’s important I give them my experience.”

Amongst the Under-21s’ travelling party will be coach Andy Impey.

The former Rangers winger has been working with the Academy in recent months and Hall admits his influence will be hugely beneficial to the young R’s on tour.

“Andy Impey will be joining us on the trip, and it’s great to have him with us,” he said. “It’s important to have a QPR heart in there with us.

“He is brilliant – he’s a nightmare, but a good nightmare!

“He has got massive experience, and him passing that on can only help.”
