ILIAS Chair insists he is fully aware of the expectation that comes with wearing QPR’s number 10 jersey.
In the past, the iconic Rangers squad number has, of course, been donned by the likes of Stan Bowles, Rodney Marsh, Simon Stainrod, John Byrne, Roy Wegerle, Kevin Gallen, Adel Taarabt and most recently Ebere Eze.
With Eze moving on to pastures new in the summer, Chair swooped for the number 10 shirt and, speaking exclusively to the Loftcast earlier this week, he explained that he knows exactly what it means.
“People expect me to score goals and get assists even more this season,” Chair said.
“I know what the number 10 is for QPR and someone that I have seen a lot of and am told about a lot about is Stan Bowles.
“He is a hero for QPR and I have seen his clips so many times as well; I know he was an incredible player and, for myself, what I think makes me different to a lot of other players is the technical side of my game. I am always looking, always trying to find that pass to go forward.”
A confident and well-mannered individual, Chair – who is still only 22 years old – is determined to join that aforementioned list of iconic QPR 10s.
He wants to stand amongst them rather than be compared to them, though.
Chair explained: “I know what Ebs did here. He did really well last season but I am my own player and I don’t want to be compared to someone from the past.
“Saying that, it is a privilege to be compared to players like Ebs and Taarabt and I hope that I can do as well as they did for QPR.”
He added: “I like the pressure [of the 10 shirt] because I feel like I play better under pressure. My motivation is to reach the top and I will do everything in my power to reach the top. I will do whatever needs to be done and I will work hard every day to get there.”
