CONOR Washington’s Northern Ireland are through to the FIFA 2018 World Cup qualification play-offs despite their 1-0 defeat against Norway on Sunday evening.
The Irish learnt ahead of kick-off that results elsewhere had guaranteed their place in the play-offs in November.
And it was just as well, as Washington’ side slipped to a 1-0 defeat in Oslo after Chris Brunt’s 71st minute own goal.
QPR striker Washington played 69 minutes for Michael O’Neill’s side as he was substituted for Kyle Lafferty midway through the second half.
The play-off draw takes place in Zurich on Tuesday, 17th October.
